May Astrology: Manifesting a new perspective

The month of May starts out feeling more like Scorpio season than Taurus season due to the Full Moon square to Pluto on the 1st. We will, in fact, have two Full Moons in May: the first and the last day. The middle of the month brings a lovely Taurus New Moon on the 16th (the day before my birthday), with a Sagittarius Full Moon on the 31st. So we start out with an intense, heavy, and revelatory Full Moon, followed by a grounded return to embodiment through the physical senses on the New Moon mid-month, and finish with the potential for liberation and freedom by the time of the Full Moon in Sagittarius.
Uranus and Pluto are huge planetary forces in May, an energy that will continue strongly for the next year; however, they are working towards transformation in tandem through a magnificent Air trine from Gemini to Aquarius. Pluto will station retrograde on the 6th at 5° of Aquarius, in the wake of the Pluto-ruled Scorpio Full Moon. This is the final dissolution of any hard truths we faced on the 1st. We are being empowered to release cycles that have surpassed their intended shelf life, return to our bodies, and find a nuisance of freedom. Get busy living or get busy dying. Perhaps we simply resign to begin a new journey.
The personal planets, including the Sun, all change signs and elements within 4 days, so we will feel a vibrational shift in our personal day-to-day lives during this month. Right after the Taurus New Moon, Mercury moves into Gemini and conjoins Uranus on the 17th. The 18th Mars leaves its home sign of Aries and enters Taurus, allowing us a pause for the cause. Venus enters Cancer to create emotional comfort, also on the 18th (creating an exact sextile Mars at 0° on the 19th: pure potentiality), and our Galaxy Star leaves the grounded Earth sign of Taurus and ingresses into the mutable Air sign of Gemini on the 20th, bringing a radical breakthrough mentality for the Season of the twins.
We will have two Cazimis this month, a time when planets conjoin the heart of the Sun, magnifying their archetypal influence. First, a Mercury cazimi on the 14th as the Sun meets the Messenger God at 23° of Taurus, and then on the 22nd, just as the Sun moves into Gemini and conjoins Uranus at 1° of the sign. I find it interesting that Mercury and Uranus are the planets being magnified. This gives us a preview of the Uranus signature through Mercury-ruled Gemini for the next seven years, the proverbial a-ha moments as we open our minds to new pathways and possibilities of revolutionary growth.
Key Dates
May 1st: The intense Scorpio Full Moon has Lady Luna in her sign of fall, square to the lunation's ruling planet, Pluto. Anything buried alive that never really died will emerge. Mars, the ancient ruler of Scorpio, is square to Jupiter in Cancer, which can lend to emotional hubris. An aspect compounding our awareness of the inner wounding is that Mercury will be exactly conjunct Chiron in Aries. Self-acceptance is a catalyst for a powerful upgrade. The Taurus Sun provides the practicality, and the Moon's trine to Jupiter in Cancer provides self-compassion. This Moon may be micro in its relative closeness to Earth, but its pure breakthrough potential is stellarly supplied by Uranus in Gemini trine to Pluto in Aquarius.
May 2nd: Mercury leaves Aries and enters Taurus, allowing us to ground our thoughts and formulate a new, healthy awareness. Conversations are less charged, and we can listen to what our bodies are telling us. This serves to steady our thoughts before implementing a plan of growth.
May 6th: Pluto stations retrograde at 5° of Aquarius for the final dissolving of outdated patterns, habits, and old conscious programming. This is an opportunity to evolve into our personal power, while also integrating authentically with the collective.
May 14th: Mercury meets the heart of the Sun at 23° of Taurus, creating a Cazimi effect. This occurs at the midpoint of the current Mercury cycle, a time when any plans that were put into place over the last few months are starting to show results. An illumination that is preparing our minds for the upcoming Sun/Uranus Cazimi, and giving us a preview of the Uranus transit through Gemini energetic implications.
May 16th: We have a New Moon at 25° of Taurus, providing new pathways in areas that until this point showed no potential. This Moon is conjunct Mercury and Uranus in Taurus and Gemini, respectively, and sextile to Jupiter in Cancer; we may suddenly change our minds about people and partners we have been emotionally vested in. In the background, Mars is conjoined to Chiron at 28° of Aries, allowing us to move beyond old insecurities and inner wounds, while Venus, the ruler of this lunation, is sextile to Mars, which allows us to act based on what is considered of value. This is a fertile new intention-setting time indeed. The Moon is exalted in Taurus, meaning we become more in tune with the physical body and our connection to nature.
May 17th: Mercury leaves Aries and enters Gemini, where it immediately conjoins Uranus at 1°. Gemini is Mercury‘s home sign, and Uranus represents the higher octave of the neutral Messenger planet. This is the beginning of a seven-year transit of elevated awareness and ushers in a broader perspective of possibilities. Keep in mind that Uranus crossed over into Gemini conjoined to Venus, so themes around resources, self-sustainability, partnerships, and money will be seen through a higher vibrational lens from this point on. May 18th: Mars leaves its home sign of Aries and enters Taurus, the home of its cosmic lover, allowing us to cool our jets and pause for the cause prior to taking action. This moves our personal planet of ego identity from impulsivity to endurance based on desired comfort. We are willing to put forth the effort in areas that we deem fulfilling for the long-term.
May 18th: Venus leaves the mutable Air sign of Gemini and enters the Cardinal Water sign of Cancer in search of emotional comfort and safety, with a strong concentration on family and those who feel like kin. Compassion for ourselves and others comes easily with this transit. A perfect time to embrace the beauty of vulnerability and embody healing around lingering familial emotional wounding. Very inate intuitive Yin energy ensues.
May 20th: the Sun leaves the comfort of Taurus and enters the Air sign of Gemini, speeding up the pace. A time when we may feel more social and willing to connect with more people. This influence is greatly magnified by the 22nd, when the Sun conjoins Uranus at 1° of the sign, creating the second Cazimi this month. It behooves us to be open-minded to doing everything differently, even if it seems risky in the eyes of others. This is the first Gemini Season in close to 80 years that has occurred with Uranus in this mutable sign. "Shift Life" now becomes the new mantra.
May 26th: Danger Danger! Mars at 5° Taurus squares Pluto at the same degree of Aquarius, while the Gemini Sun creates an exact Air trine to Pluto. Personal power is the key signature with these powerful aspects, and with Mars and Pluto, the ancient and modern rulers of Scorpio at play, power can create a revolution. However, it is important to operate in right use of power, lest there will be consequences.
May 31st: The second Full Moon of the month occurs at 9° of Sagittarius, bringing higher truth and revelation, propelling us towards a new journey of liberation and freedom. Uranus in Gemini is opposing this Moon while transiting close to the Gemini Sun, so sudden events can come in unexpectedly. Remember to remain movable (mutable). This lunation squares the lunar nodes, which brings a fated tone to the radical changes that come in. Consider this an opening to greater possibilities. Saturn and Neptune in Aries are trine to this Full Moon, offering long-term support as we pursue our inspirations. What is the new journey that is calling to you? Remember, all that wander are not lost, perhaps their awareness has become greatly elevated, and a powerful ability to operate in a new vibration of existence has occurred. Our terrain will look entirely different from this point on, folks! Embrace it as if you just pulled the Fool card.
