October Astro: Venus Returns to The Underworld
October is set to be an intense month for deep dives into our personal relationship with money, love, and abundance—also an imperative time to protect our personal energy. Venus, the Goddess of Love, stations retrograde at 8° Scorpio on the 3rd. Romantic themes are soon to be reevaluated and scrutinized to the point of a potentially powerful reset in our most intimate partnerships. Venus, newly arrived in her sign of detriment in her opposite sign of Scorpio, is not the lightest expression of her attributes. Venus is no longer settling for surviving, but searching for thriving. Scorpio brings it but says, I never promised you a rose garden...yet here is the invitation to travel through the shadowy maze of the mystic underworld. In this enticing place, there are certainly some undiscovered treasures buried deep in the cavernous dark. Venus rules our VALUES in romance, resources, and finds fulfillment in simple beauty: the tangible material plane. Those things that light up our physical senses. It’s the external environment that we desire with Venus. Scorpio is about the DEPTH of our connections. Our soul ties and shared resources. The hidden place where magic is made. This uncomfortable placement of Lady Luck stirs our passion for something real. We are entering a long transitory mission of discovery where we can deeply examine the themes and patterns of all our interpersonal dynamics.
On the same day that Venus stations retrograde, Mars, the ancient ruler of Scorpio, in Leo, and Pluto, the modern ruler of Scorpio, in Aquarius, create an exact opposition at 3° of the signs. This creates a fixed T-square to the planets moving into Scorpio, namely, Venus and Mercury. This configuration creates intensity between Mars in the performative sign of lighthearted Leo and Pluto retrograde in the revolutionary collective sign of Aquarius. The fulcrum between these two extremes can be found at Venus and Mercury in Scorpio. The time when we can seek to discover the hidden personal truths within our psyche about our interconnectedness to abundance, and our ability to share that with a partner. Empowering Pluto in this placement signals the first shift in the dynamics at play as it stations direct on October 15th, still sitting at 3° Aquarius. We will feel this over the coming months as big changes become more externalized, and what we are learning internally starts to find its tribe. Pluto has been in the radical sign of Aquarius since May 6th, looking behind to the last age. But now he’s not looking over his shoulder; he is looking to the future. The New Age of Aquarius that we are all entering. In this slow acceleration, the question Pluto poses is, “Where is your power?” This is personal! Look to the last 10° of Libra, and the first 10° of Scorpio in your personal chart to see where Venus and Mercury will be traveling. This will impact us all on a personal level in different areas! What must die so that something new can grow, or at least be fertilized? These two are in an ancient tangle in the sign of death and rebirth. The place that reveals the most raw side of regeneration. Organic and yet still mysterious. We will feel this shift energetically, and these themes will play out for decades to come. Times, they are a changing…
Venus is not alone on her retrograde journey; Mercury just entered Scorpio on September 30th and will also retrograde the sign of the eighth house ruler. Mercury stations retrograde on October 24th at 20° of Scorpio, for the third and final cognitive review phase in the third Water sign this calendar year. They will both station direct on the same day, heart present and mind aware, working congruently. Venus retrogrades less frequently, every 18 months, and this will complete a 100-year Scorpio cycle in the depth of the psyche, where powerful transformation in us can occur. Contingent on our willingness to traverse the dark corners. The Venus starpoint occurs on the 23rd when she meets the heart of our Galaxy Star at 0° Scorpio in a Sun/Venus Cazimi. Venus will retrograde back into Libra, her other ruling sign, on October 25th, allowing the energies to lighten and the edges to soften as we remember to remain the observer. These two will bring more clarity in Venusian themes...until then we remain the observer. Mercury is the Messenger God seeking to retrieve and reveal hidden information regarding what Venus, in our own heart of hearts, realizes is fulfilling moving forward.
Venus may be out of her element in the intense, sultry, and secretive sign of Scorpio, but the Venusian influence is strong this October. Venus is completing a 100-year soul cycle, and two lunations that she will rule are occurring. A Libra New Moon at 17° on the 10th will perfect with Venus retrograde in Scorpio, square to Mars in Leo at 7°. Something must be reconciled. This is a new lunar cycle, a new intentional time to reset our partnering patterns. Reconciling conflicts and giving the necessary connections their due attention will be at the forefront. This is teaching us to create a sense of order, balance, and awareness as we recognize the beauty that partnerships can bring into our lives. This New Moon is also in a supportive sextile to Jupiter in heart-centered Leo, aiding in our ability to operate from a higher heart of truth. Then on the 26th, we have a Taurus Full Moon at 2° with the Sun opposite the sign of the bull, at 2° Scorpio, and in a square to Pluto, now Direct, at 3° of Aquarius. Something has now become dislodged. An important area is revealing new growth. A crisis is culminating or completing. And it all feels like it will provide a blessing. Venus rules both Libra and Taurus, and the Mars/Pluto/Scorpio influence will no longer tolerate surface-level connections, conversations, or mundane money endeavors. This is the last Venus Starpoint in Scorpio since 1926. We are completing the final searching of the soul and shared wealth tendencies. From this point on, the next Venus evening star cycle will play out in the just sign of Libra. This is the last pass to getting to the heart of the matter and overcoming the fears that prevent a true sacred union. In Libra, the balance and harmony can finally become real as we move forward.
