The Libra New Moon occurs at 17° of the Cardinal Air sign on 10/10, with Venus, the dispositor of this lunation, currently retrograde in Scorpio, her sign of detriment, and in an exact square to Mars in Leo. (Mars is the ancient ruler of Scorpio) And the Sun is in Fall in Libra! Libra governs the seventh house of marriage. It is the sign associated with balance, beauty, and justice in our most interpersonal partnerships. In this tense aspect between the cosmic lovers Mars and Venus, the square represents two areas of our charts requiring reconciliation between the Yang and the Yin, the masculine and the feminine. Harmony in relationships will not come easy with this one. Our intentions must be backed by something solid; superficial niceties will only dissolve under the intense pressure of Venus in this underworld journey. Mercury in Scorpio sits just 6° of separation from Venus, preparing for his final retrograde phase of the year as well. These two are hellbent on discovery of truth. What is hidden in the dark regarding either romances or finances will soon bubble up from the muck and mire.

Venus is not alone in her review. During a time when we normally set intentions regarding our next lunar cycle, there are six planets in total, including Chiron, Pluto, Uranus, Neptune, Saturn, and most importantly… Lady Luck, Venus in retrograde. We are starting to see the dark implications on our soul connections. This Scorpio and Libra cusp energy is playing out for everyone in some area of their life..."It always starts with me." As we review the inner and outer, the personal and the collective themes in our relationship to love and money, what are the fears preventing healthy connections in these areas? Our partners provide a reflection; they are mirrors, revealing those parts of us where we still seek love or abundance outside of ourselves. This is the time to realize those parts, face the shadows, and deal with the emotions we buried alive that never really died. Fear can be the root of every Scorpio influenced emotion. Whether it be jealousy, power dynamics, the fear of abandonment, or even a fear of true intimacy, it is an inside job. The first key to true reciprocity is being real with ourselves. Venus in Scorpio will settle for nothing less.

When we think of a New Moon as a new emotional cycle, a few things we can ponder are:

-How have I let past relationships affect my current one?

-Am I operating from a lack mindset?

-Is scarcity a familial programming that needs to be canceled?

-What blocks my ability to receive abundance in all forms?

-What has created my attachment style?

-Where are the imbalances showing up in my closest unions?

This is a two-sided coin. It is said that it is greater to understand than to be understood, but Libra calls for balance. The kind of accountability and willingness required for true harmony to occur. Authentically is the most powerful way to show up for anyone. Especially ourselves. Are our relationships giving back what we put out? Is there an even energy exchange on an intimate level? How do we value others, and are we being valued in return? Self-value is key anytime Venus is at play, and this October’s astrology is saturated with Venusian themes! Be warned, boundaries are a huge part of this Libra need.

Mars in Leo is also in a separating sextile to Uranus retrograde in Gemini, allowing us to see things from a broader perspective. To be future-focused, if you will. Perhaps from a completely unorthodox perspective. How can we create sacred Union in the age of Aquarius? How can we do things differently than we have done thus far? Different than our parents and our ancestors did? What is the unconventional approach that could actually make things work better? Other influencing background aspects during this Libra New Moon include Black Moon Lilith in Capricorn square to the New Moon. This twinges on control, power, authority, and responsibility. Where have we cast great expectations on others and conversely, where have we given our power away? Does money play a part in the control dynamics of my partnerships? Lilith in Capricorn also wants something to commit to. It seeks something consistently supportive that recognizes her worth.

Whatever has been surfacing over the past two weeks, which is a lot for everyone, this New Moon offers the opportunity to start over; to begin again. We can intend to recognize the patterns that prevent these things that we all really desire: a happy, healthy relationship and economic security. Perhaps Mercury and Venus will provide the hidden information required to trudge the road of happy destiny together when they station direct on November 13th. Until then, remain the observer; and to thine own self be true. The New Moon during this particularly intense Libra Season offers a time to reconsider and course-correct where necessary in order to generate genuine connection from this point on. The Lunation themes highlight collaboration and co-creation. As we reconsider what harmonious partnering means, we can simply resign ourselves to doing things differently in romance and resources. Libra is the sign of the scales, of balance and justice. We must be willing to put forth the effort to sincerely bond while simultaneously honoring and maintaining our own need for independence.

"And stand together, yet not too near together; for the pillars of the temple stand apart, and the Oak tree and the Cyprus grow not in each other's shadow.”
